Works with

  • Plex
  • Jellyfin
  • Infuse
  • Emby
  • Kodi
  • MakeMKV

The problem

Plex doesn't know what HEY_ARNOLD_S1_DISC1_t01.mkv is.

MakeMKV is the standard for ripping DVDs and Blu-rays. It's also famous for producing filenames that no media server can parse. Plex falls back to the junk title written inside the file's metadata. Jellyfin guesses wrong. Infuse shows the disc number instead of the episode name.

The fix is renaming the file and stripping the embedded metadata — both at once. Doing it manually for 1,500 files takes a weekend. Cinax does it in 14 seconds.

What Cinax does

Three things. Done well.

Rename

Bulk rename across folders.

Drag a folder. Cinax parses every filename, detects shows and movies, and renames in seconds. TV becomes Show Name - S01E01 - Title.mkv. Movies become Film Title (Year).mkv. Handles MakeMKV's _tNN chaos that FileBot can't.

Clean

Strip embedded metadata.

The embedded MKV title field is the reason Plex shows Spiderman.2002.720p.BRRip.x264.YIFY even after you rename the file. Cinax blanks the title, removes tags, and strips attached posters. Plex starts behaving immediately.

Convert

MKV to MP4, losslessly.

Some TVs and devices won't play MKV. Cinax remuxes to MP4 without re-encoding — no quality loss, no waiting. A two-hour film converts in twelve seconds. Subtitles preserved.

How it works

Drag, choose, done.

  1. Drop your files.

Any folder. MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV. Up to 5,000 files at once.

  2. Pick what to do.

Toggle rename, metadata strip, or MP4 conversion. Choose your output folder.

  3. Click rename.

Watch it tick through every file in seconds. Open the folder. Done.

No accounts. No cloud. Nothing leaves your machine.

What's next

More than renaming. Connect, Posters, Subs.

Why Cinax

Built for the job you actually do.

FileBot is mature but it doesn't handle MakeMKV output cleanly. tinyMediaManager runs in Java and feels like 2012. MKVToolNix GUI is a Swiss Army knife for codecs, not a library tool. Cinax is the modern, focused, designer-grade alternative for the actual workflow: rip a disc, get it Plex-ready, move on.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Does Cinax work without an internet connection?

Cinax Free works entirely offline — bulk renaming, metadata stripping and MKV→MP4 conversion all happen on your machine using a bundled copy of FFmpeg. Cinax Pro uses online lookups to TVDB and TMDB but falls back to filename parsing when offline.

Will Cinax delete my original files?

No, by default. Cinax keeps your originals untouched and writes new files for the renamed/converted output. Deleting originals is opt-in and routes through the Recycle Bin / Trash.

Does Cinax re-encode my video?

Never. MKV→MP4 conversion is a lossless remux — existing streams copied into a new container, no re-encoding, identical quality.

Is it really one-time pricing?

Yes. £9.99 once. Not a subscription. Every update through v2 is free for existing Pro buyers, including the upcoming modules.
